Painting
2016
I began in 2014 trying to paint one image a year, in 2016 I started using mixed media. 2016 uses gold leaf to create a landscape/horizon silhouette. I have always been fascinated by light on the landscape and tried to capture this.
2017
I continued landscape exploration in my work for 2017, using copper leaf, I had noticed the painting from 2016 (un-varnished) had reacted with the environment, so the effect of oxidation on the copper leaf was something I wanted to look into and experiment with.
2018
The work for 2018 I used a more mixed media, it is painted over a fine liner drawn base, and uses texture paint to create more exaggerated landscape, which is highlighted in gold leaf, in a first attempt (following 2017) to show light on the landscape.
2019
In 2019 I wanted to experiment further with colour and texture. I like the focus on sky and the light that I tried to look at in previous years, so this painting began with the sky, and is then built up to work in texture, and begin looking at light.
2020
Obviously, in 2020 we had a weird year! So this painting took ages. Obviously very amateur, but I was trying to focus more on light and was inspired by a similar existing painting. I am missing the abstract work and all the dark colours, being an Architect that appeals to me!
